After six weeks of challenging academics, community service and hands-on learning, 59 rural and Alaska Native high school students will be commended during the Rural Alaska Honors Institute graduation ceremony at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 9. The ceremony will be in the Reichardt Building auditorium, Room 201, at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

I recognize that the university has a dining contractor and an associated exclusive vendor contract. It doesn’t seem to me that the contractor would lose much if food trucks were allowed on campus because the dining contractor is not doing much business here in the summer anyway. In the past few days, meteor astronomer Peter Jenniskens, Fairbanks guide Garrett Jones and I have noticed that looking for meteorites is a lot like searching for bird nests. We find none of the former but a few dozen of the latter.
