Why is the violent intruder workshop only being held at Butrovich and not on campus?

Question

Why is the violent intruder workshop only being held at Butrovich and not on campus?  The latest campus shootings have all happened on a college campus — NOT in an administrative building.  Are there any workshops planned for staff and faculty who have regular contact with students?  It seems that this is the group who needs the training the most … not those who never work with students.

Response

The exercise at the Butrovich Building is being conducted by and for UA statewide employees, with some assistance by UAF personnel. UAF police, fire and emergency management personnel are planning a violent intruder exercise involving students and employees during the spring semester. The violent intruder training is offered by the UAF Police Department upon request. Beginning in January 2016, the department will offer the training weekly in an auditorium until the entire campus is trained. This training will be open to anyone.
