Firewood workshop offered Feb. 20 in North Pole

Representatives from multiple agencies will provide information about cutting and seasoning firewood and using a wood stove safely during a Feb. 20  workshop in North Pole.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service and the Yukon River Chapter of the Society of American Foresters will host the free workshop from noon to 4 p.m. in the North Pole branch library, 656 North Pole High School Blvd.

Information will be provided on operating and maintaining wood stoves and chainsaws, felling trees, seasoning firewood and estimating how much is needed. The workshop will also cover getting firewood permits on state, borough and military lands. Presentations will be given by Extension, the Fairbanks North Star Borough, the Alaska Division of Forestry, Fort Wainwright and The Woodway.
