A groundbreaking ceremony for the Alaska Center for Energy and Power Energy Technology Facility High Bay Test Modules was held May 12. About 130 people were in attendance.  Remarks were made by Chancellor Brian Rogers; UA Regent Mike Powers; Peter Crimp, Deputy Director for Alaska Energy Authority; Meera Kohler, Executive Director of Alaska Village Electric Cooperative; Joel Neimeyer, Federal Co-Chair of the Denali Commission; and Dan White, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Director of the Institute of Northern Engineering.

When complete the facility will include four bays to conduct energy-related research including a diesel engine test bed, a wind-diesel hybrid simulator, advanced energy storage technology and hydrokinetic devices. The building is slated for completion in fall 2011.
