Day One: Well we finally made it to Hilo! It was a long day of flying, but it was totally worth it! It is beautiful here. I have never been to Hilo before so it is exciting to experience a new island. The best part of the trip so far was getting upgraded to first class from Portland to Honolulu. I slept almost the entire way which isn't surprising because I can sleep anywhere. Once we arrived in Hilo (after a brief layover in Honolulu), the first thing we did was rush up to our rooms to shower before dinner. We ate dinner at this small Italian restaurant, Cafe Concerto. The food was really good. I had chicken and angel hair pasta in a tomato sauce.

As I'm sitting outside right now writing this blog, I'm thinking about how fortunate I am to get to come to Hawaii to play volleyball! I'm sad this is going to be my last time getting to play in Hawaii but I'm ready to go out with a bang. We are all ready to show these Hawaiians what Alaska Volleyball is all about and kick some butt tomorrow. Well, it's time for me to go to bed now. Until tomorrow, Aloha!

Note from sports information director, Chris Brooks, who is accompanying Alaska on the trip: Now, for some tidbit information for Thursday night's match at the University of Hawaii at Hilo -- We will produce an audio broadcast on Stretch Internet for the regular-season opener at UHH, which begins at 9 p.m. in Fairbanks - 7 p.m. here in Hawaii. There will be a pregame show, which is slated to start 10 minutes prior to first serve so tune in for some insight on the match, with first-year head coach Mallory Larranaga.
