Campus summer construction update

During the next month, several small yet high-profile maintenance and repair projects
will kick off on the Fairbanks campus. Because of a deep reduction in funding, large
renovation projects have been placed on hold. The focus for Facilities Services has
shifted to smaller critical-need projects intended to address life-safety issues and
prevent the further degradation of our campus facilities. The projects, such as fixing
roof leaks at the Chancellor’s Residence and replacing toilets in Moore Hall, will
ensure the continued operation of our buildings and give us a few more years of usability
before major renewals must occur.
Utilities main waste line repair
Tanana Loop from the Fine Arts Building to Harwood Hall, including the Yukon Drive intersection, will be closed through Aug. 10 as the contractor installs a new utilities main waste line and service connections.
The Fine Arts parking lot is now expected to be closed through May 23. Access to the lot and the Fine Arts loading dock will be from the south on Tanana Loop.
Signs are posted in various locations to delineate the project and provide detour routing for local traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists should avoid the area. Alternate drop-off locations are recommended for affected summer camps.
Combined heat and power plant
This project calls for installing foundations for a pipe bridge and a utilidor manhole adjacent to Alumni Drive starting June 7. The excavation for this work will encroach on Alumni Drive. Two lanes of travel will be maintained and there will be a reduced speed limit of 15 mph for approximately 30 days in this area.

Yankovich Road–Miller Hill multiuse path
Construction is expected to resume in the next week on the Yankovich Road–Miller Hill multiuse path project, which the state Department of Transportation manages. Facilities Services project managers are coordinating the timeline for minimal disruption. Parking is not allowed on the road or the bike path near the Georgeson Botanical Garden.
