Geological engineering senior wins poster award

Uyanga Mendbayar, a senior geological engineering student, received an Outstanding Undergraduate Poster award at the 4th Annual Student Water Conference.

Mendbayar's poster was entitled, "Investigation and Quantification of Water Track Networks in Boreal Regions Using Remote Sensing and Geophysical Data."

The conference was organized by Professor Garey Fox, a noted hydrologist from Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Mendbayar's research has been supported through a grant from the Center for Global Change, University of Alaska Fairbanks, and her travel to the conference was supported by a travel award from the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity.

Mendbayar is grateful to Erin Trochim, Matt Nolan, Michael Hatfield, Jeremy Hale, Martin Harrild, Aaron Kruse, Tushar Gupta, Rebekah Tsigonis, William Schnabel, Jens Munk and Kevin Bjella for their support. She is also grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Martin of Fairbanks for allowing her to take some measurements on their property. Professor Debu Misra of the geological engineering program is her mentor for this undergraduate research.
