Gloria Steinem to speak at UAF

Writer, lecturer, feminist and political activist Gloria Steinem will speak at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Friday, June 12, at 7 p.m. in the Davis Concert Hall.
The event is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted. Seating in the Davis Concert Hall is limited, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early; doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event will also be webstreamed to the Salisbury Theatre and online at www.uaf.edu/summer/gloria.
Steinem is the co-founder of Ms. magazine who spent more than three decades as a feminist organizer in the United States and abroad. She is a frequent expert source in media reports on equality issues and has helped found multiple organizations focused on the rights of women, children and minority groups. She has authored multiple books and articles, and has produced several documentaries. Steinem's interests include the shared origins of sex and race caste systems, gender roles and child abuse as roots of violence, non-violent conflict resolution, the cultures of indigenous peoples, and organizing across boundaries for peace and justice.
Steinem's visit is hosted by UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning and supported by the UAF Social Work Department, the UAF Women's and Gender Studies Program, Alaska Airlines, the Alaska Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, and many individual donors.
