Joe Shaw, an engineering professor at Montana State University, will examine the parallel growth of education and high-tech industry in Bozeman, Montana, at the next Inventors' Forum.

The forum, to begin at 3:30 p.m. April 13 in Akasofu Building 501, is sponsored by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization.

Shaw earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from UAF and is now a professor of electrical and computer engineering at MSU, an affiliate professor of physics and director of Bozeman's Optical Technology Center.

Bozeman until recently was home to few, if any, high-technology companies. It now has dozens. Shaw will outline the events that initiated this development and the activities that continue to promote growth in academia and industry. Shaw will also speak about several principles that could help implement similar growth in Fairbanks.
