Halos and rainbows: Demonstration explores nature's optics

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute will host a free public demonstration of artificially made rainbows and halos Monday, Aug. 5 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Elvey Auditorium.
The demonstration is part of a scientific meeting being held at UAF August 5-8. The meeting is expected to draw about 45 scientists from around the world who study the science of light and color in nature, including rainbows, sundogs, halos, mirages and other optics caused by light refraction.
The public demonstration is free, but the meeting is for registered participants. It is partially funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
