Alaska Business Week, the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce high school summer leadership program, will be held on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus this year from July 27 through Aug. 2.

The weeklong summer program is designed to give students hands-on experience in running a company, while honing their leadership skills and meeting students from all over the state.

Student teams are paired with business executives, who act as advisors for the teams' companies. Students participate in nine presentations by Alaska business leaders and explore subjects like leadership, ethics, marketing, entrepreneurship and future jobs in Alaska.

The Alaska Business Week program is in its fifth year in Alaska and is presented in partnership with the UAF School of Management. It is based on the long-running Washington Business Week program.

Two college credits are available for successful completion of the program. Tuition is $475 and covers room, board, tuition, fees and program materials. Some students may be eligible to receive free transportation. The deadline for applications is May 30. The program is open to all high school students finishing ninth through 12th grades.
