Fairbanks, Alaska - The Alaska Nanooks host the Ohio State Buckeyes this weekend (Feb. 8-9) at the Carlson Center, where they will play their penultimate Central Collegiate Hockey Association home games. Both games faceoff at 7:05 p.m.

Here are the need to know notes about the Ohio State series and Alaska Hockey

  • • Alaska hosts Ohio State this weekend at the Carlson Center for the final two regular-season meetings between the teams. They met twice in Columbus on Nov. 9-10, when the Nanooks tied them 1-1 but lost the shootout, but came back to win the next night 3-1.

  • • Under head coach Dallas Ferguson, the Nanooks are 8-3-4-0 against OSU, which includes a 5-2 mark in Fairbanks. Five of the team's last 10 meetings have required an extra session and while the Nanooks have the only overtime win in those meetings, a 1-0 win in Fairbanks on Jan. 28, 2011, OSU has won all four of the CCHA shootouts for the extra point.

  • • Last Friday's loss snapped Alaska's six-game winning streak and seven-game unbeaten streak. Saturday's let down marked just the second time this season the Nanooks were swept, both suffered at the hands of the Miami RedHawks.

  • • The Nanooks killed 10-of-11 penalties on the weekend at Miami, holding their season penalty-killing efficiency to 88.7 percent, good for eighth in the country and second in the CCHA.

  • • Three forwards are tied for the scoring lead as seniors Andy Taranto and Jarret Granberg and rookie Tyler Morley all have tallied 17 points apiece. Morley leads all players with nine goals, while sophomore defenseman Trevor Campbell is tops in dishing the puck with 14 helpers through 25 games. Taranto leads the team in CCHA games as all of his season points have been scored in league play, while Granberg has eight goals in 22 conference contests and Campbell has notched 11 of his assists in CCHA play.

  • • Freshman goalie John Keeney was named the Hockey Commissioners' Association National Division I Rookie of the Month for January. Keeney was the CCHA Rookie of the Month after starting and earning wins in all six of the Nanooks game in January. He backstopped the Blue and Gold to their most historic January in program history as they posted three consecutive sweeps, including their first-ever of Michigan, while recording a 2.17 goals-against average and turning aside 140 shots for a .915 save percentage.

  • • The weekend series sweep in Fairbanks on Jan. 25-26 was Alaska's first since Jan. 28-29, 2011, when they shutout Ohio State 1-0 and then beat them 6-2 at the Carlson Center.

  • • Last Saturday in Oxford, the Nanooks allowed 35 shots on goal, the most for an opponent in any game this season. The previous high was 34 by OSU on Nov. 9.
