The UAF Financial Aid Office is seeking volunteers to help host the Kids2College Program, which brings fifth- and sixth-graders to the Fairbanks campus to learn about college and how to prepare for it.

On April 15, 450 students from Fairbanks, Salcha, Delta and the Tok area will visit campus to experience a day in the life of a college student. The students will receive items to help prepare them for college, including a piggy bank with their first saved dollar. They will take mock college courses, receive a tour of the campus and have lunch with UAF students.

Financial Aid needs volunteers to offer 45-minute sessions or tours for groups of 20-30 students. This is a great outreach opportunity to highlight a program. Multiple time slots are available between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The office also needs volunteers to be the UAF guide for the entire visit (9 a.m.-2 p.m.).

In addition, the Kids2College Program needs volunteers for career panels at schools later this month. The following panels are scheduled:

  • Immaculate Conception School, March 27, 9-10 a.m.

  • Nordale Elementary, March 30, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

  • Woodriver Elementary, March 31, 9:15-10:15 p.m.

The schedule is pending for Joy, Fort Greely, Salcha and Alaska Gateway School District elementary schools. Video conferencing is available for Fort Greely, Salcha and Gateway schools.
