University Relations

This spring, the UAF Financial Aid Office is organizing the Kids2College Program in Alaska's Interior region. Local sixth-graders are completing a six-week curriculum, learning about careers and how to prepare for college. At the end of the program, the students will visit campus to experience a day in the life of a college student.

Volunteers are needed for various aspects of the program.

Career panel speakers will visit a school to talk about their career fields at one of the following times and locations:

  • March 23, 2-3 p.m.Nenana School, videoconference panel from UAF Butrovich Building

  • April 4, 10:15-11:15 a.m., Barnette Magnet School

  • April 5, 2-3 p.m., Nordale Elementary School

  • April 7, 10-11 a.m., Joy Elementary School

  • April 13, 2-3 p.m., Hunter Elementary School

On April 19, all 450 students will visit UAF to experience a day in the life of a college student. Each student will take three mock college classes and receive a campus tour. Volunteers are needed to lead a hands-on, 45-minute session for a group of 25-30 sixth graders and their teacher. This is a great way to highlight your program and inspire a future college student.

Available time slots are:

  • 10:15-11 a.m.

  • 11:15-noon

  • 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

  • 12:45 p.m.-1:30 p.m.

Kids from the Tok, Delta, Nenana and Fairbanks areas participate in the program. Thank you for considering being one of the 100 needed program volunteers.
