Learn about antibiotic overuse, unmanned aircraft and more

UAF Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free events this summer, including these five in the coming week:
- On Wednesday, July 30, during the Discover Alaska Lecture, meet Tom Walker, 2013 Alaska Historical Society Historian of the Year. Tom will talk about "Kantishna Country — Discovering the History of Place: Miners, Madmen, and Mountaineers." The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.
- Music in the Garden will feature Them Folkers. A new band on the Fairbanks folk scene, this husband-wife team brings soulful bluegrass and folk tunes. The show will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31, in the Georgeson Botanical Gardens. Due to construction, the garden has limited parking space. Please park on West Ridge.
- The Magical Mondays program, a series of hands-on science demonstrations for kids and their families, will offer a firsthand viewing of how an unmanned aircraft works. Eyal Saiet, investigator at Alaska Center for Unmanned Aircraft System Integration, will lead the activities beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, in 201 Reichardt Building.
- The Healthy Living Lecture on Tuesday, Aug. 5, will review "Dangers of Antibiotic Overuse” with Dr. John Depasquale, a board-certified pediatrician at Tanana Valley Clinic. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.
- On Wednesday, Aug. 6, during the Discover Alaska Lecture, meet Debbie Miller, author of “A King Salmon Journey," a new book about a salmon's travels up the Yukon River. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.
