Lecture to focus on indigenous people, resource industry

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host a free public lecture focusing on indigenous people and the energy and natural resources industry in Canada Tuesday, Sept 29 at 6 p.m. at Schaible Auditorium. The lecture will feature author Greg Poelzer, a Fulbright Arctic Initiative Scholar, professor of political studies at the University of Saskatchewan and executive chair of the International Centre for Northern Governance and Development.

Poelzer will speak about his recent book “From Treaty Peoples to Treaty Nation: A Road Map for all Canadians.” The book focuses on the partnerships between indigenous people and the resource sector in Canada, and how those partnerships have led to growth in employment, business development, and education and training, and also have strengthened the prospects for the future of resource economy in Canada.
