The University of Alaska Fairbanks Mining Extension Program will offer a basic prospecting workshop April 5 at the Delta Mine Training Center.

The workshop will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include a tour of the underground, hard rock training mine. Instructor Dave Wright has lived and prospected in the Interior since the early 1970s, mostly in the Goodpaster and Richardson districts, and he has experience with locating, developing and promoting mining properties.

The workshop will cover ore material testing and identification, different types of geological maps, staking a claim, prospecting tools and equipment, geochemical sampling methods, gold panning and sluicing, and an overview of rock and mineral deposits.

The workshop fee of $50 includes lunch. Register online at bit.ly/ces-workshops. The Delta Mine Training Center is located 30 miles south of Delta Junction, near Mile 1392 of the Alaska Highway.
