Namaste India, a student organization at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, donated proceeds from its Nov. 5 Diwali celebration to the United Way of the Tanana Valley.

Diwali, a Hindu festival observed throughout India, celebrates light and so often features candles, fireworks and lamps, as well as lots of food.

The donation will support United Way's community service activities. For more information about United Way, go online to www.unitedwaytv.com.
