Fans will have their first chance to check out the Alaska Nanooks men's and women's basketball programs this Thursday as the two squads will host their annual Blue-Gold doubleheader at the Patty Center.

Between the programs, a total of 25 new faces will don the Blue and Gold this winter, 15 of which are NCAA or junior college transfers.

“The first scrimmage is a great opportunity to see the fans, feel a game setting and still work on developing our team skills,” women's basketball head coach Cody Burgess said. “After a long pre-season and few weeks of practice, the team is anxious to start competition.”

“We need to take this out in front of people and see what we call 'game slippage' and see what we need to refine,” men's basketball head coach Mick Durham said. “This is our second scrimmage but to do it in front of people in a game setup is a step you need to take. We're getting close and we need to play games so this week is important to us.”

The women's scrimmage is set for a 5:30 p.m. start with the men's to follow at 7 p.m. Admission to the event is free but donations will be accepted to benefit the basketball booster clubs. Live video will be available through Stretch Internet's Game Central.
