New Student Orientation 2013

August 14, 2013

Cornerstone

New Student Orientation is gearing up for the Fall 2013 Orientation program, which will take place on Sunday, Sept. 1 – 4. Faculty and academic staff involvement are encouraged in the following events:

  • Academic open houses: These will take place  from 10:15–11:10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Orientation Leaders will guide new students to their respective school and college open house locations, and each location should have faculty and staff ready to greet these students. It is up to the school/college to subdivide students by department or major (if desired) and plan your specific event. This event is intended to provide flexibility to meet the needs of your academic area, whether it is an overview of the program, presentation of department-specific requirements, casual meet-and-greet, or some other format.

  • Academic lunch: This follows the open houses from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Lola Tilly Commons. Faculty and staff are asked to lead students directly from their open house to lunch. This will be a casual opportunity for students to talk with faculty and staff. Please complete an RSVP by Aug. 23 if you plan on attending.

  • Resource Fair: The Resource Fair will be from 11 a.m.– 1 p.m. on Wed, Sept. 4, in the Wood Center. If your office or department would like to participate in this event and reserve a half-table, please complete a reservation form prior to Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Please spread the word with faculty and academic staff in your school/college/department about these events to ensure their participation and, in turn, a successful event for new students. NSO will follow up with each school and college to confirm academic open house plans and provide more information if needed.
