Tanana Valley Campus faculty and staff have receive local and statewide awards and honors. Recent award-winners include Ed Husted, paralegal studies, 2004 Emil Usibelli Award for Teaching; Terri Kiss, nursing, Best Teacher and Best Nurse in the 2004 Fairbanks Daily News-Miner Reader's Choice Awards; and Veronica Plumb (above), Bunnell House Early Childhood Lab School, recipient of the 2004 President's Award by the Fairbanks Association for the Education of Young Children.


The University of Alaska Fairbanks Tanana Valley Campus is celebrating its 30th anniverary Oct. 18-22, 2004, with a series of community seminars and events.

On Wednesday, Oct. 20, TVC Human Services Assistant Professor Bob Parr will present a seminar on "Tips for Dealing with the Winter Blues." The seminar will give advice on how people can keep their spirits up when the sun is down, including examples of light box therapy. The seminar will be held from 12-1p.m. in room 203 of the Tanana Valley Campus Center.

On Thursday, Oct. 21, the public is invited to TVC's 30th anniversary birthday bash from 5:30-7:30p.m. at the Tanana Valley Campus Center. The celebration will feature UAF door prizes, food, live music, and tours of the building.

TVC's 30th anniversary week wraps up on Friday, Oct. 22, with a seminar on "Preparing Alaskans for Alaska's Jobs: The TVC Process Technology Program." The seminar will be presented by Jon Prater, assistant professor in the TVC process technology program, and will be held from 12-1p.m. in room 135D of the Hutchison Institute of Technology.

TVC first opened its doors to the public in 1974 as the Tanana Valley Community College. Over the years TVC has grown to become the fourth largest campus in the University of Alaska 16-campus system, with an enrollment of more than 3,000 students. The campus offers 40 certificate and associate degree programs in topics ranging from allied health to professional piloting.

In recognition of TVC's anniversary, Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor proclaimed Oct. 18-22, 2004 as "Tanana Valley Campus Week." For more information on TVC's 30th anniversary celebration visit their website at www.tvc.uaf.edu or call 455-2857.
