Patent and trademark officials to hold public events

The UAF Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization invites you to a pair of public events on the Fairbanks campus with representatives of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016.

John Cabeca directs the patent office's West Coast Region, and Jason Lott is the attorney advisor for the office's trademark educational outreach.

Patent and trademark open forum
Wednesday, Oct. 5, noon-1:30 p.m., Wood Center
Cabeca and Lott will share their knowledge, experience and insight into the creation and protection of intellectual property. This is a brown-bag-style forum where the audience can discuss topics with the experts. Patent holders at UAF and in the community will be recognized, and the public is welcome.

Patent 101 and trademark basics
Wednesday, Oct. 5, 6-8 p.m., UAF Murie Building auditorium
In this public lecture, Cabeca and Lott will cover the fundamentals of patenting and trademarking. The pair will describe how the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office helps inventors protect their intellectual property and will review resources available to inventors.
