The University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical College paralegal studies program will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a community celebration Friday, Oct. 26 at 4:30 p.m. at 604 Barnette Street. Speakers include CTC dean Michele Stalder, paralegal program coordinator Ed Husted.

The program was originally proposed in 1987, but was delayed due to budget constraints. In March of 1992, with strong backing from the local legal community, the UAF Faculty Senate approved an associate degree in paralegal studies. That local support continues to drive the program today.

“It is rare that we are unable to place any graduate who actively seeks employment in the Fairbanks legal community. We have been able to accomplish this because I don't put away a graduate's file until job placement is completed,” said program coordinator Ed Husted.

The program received initial American Bar Association Accreditation approval in February of 2001 and was reapproved in 2008.
