Parking congestion on lower campus

Question

Why is parking on lower campus so much more congested this semester?

Response

It seems historically the first couple of weeks of schools sees the most congestion in lower areas of campus. An adjustment evolves as school progresses and people figure out other areas for parking, such as Taku, West Ridge and the museum, that tend to have plenty of room. A couple other changes that may affect this is the continued closure of Tanana Loop and the enhanced pedestrian area in front of Wickersham Hall. Fortunately, Tanana Loop should open within a couple of weeks. As drivers get used to these changes we should see congestion ease.
