Placer mining workshop offered in Palmer

The UAF Cooperative Extension Service will host a free workshop for would-be placer miners April 13 in Palmer.

Donald Keill, who has nearly 40 years of experience as a mining engineer and geologist, will lead the workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service district office at 809 S. Chugach St. Keill is also a certified mineral examiner and the owner of Keill Engineering in Fairbanks.

The workshop will cover placer exploration and mining, including placer geology, claim staking, hand and mechanized methods, mining agreements, permitting, mine plans, mining economics, reclamation and more.
