UA President Jim Johnsen has named review teams for phase two of Strategic Pathways. Review teams include staff, faculty, governance representatives and community members from around the state. A list of names can be found at http://www.alaska.edu/pathways/.

The phase two focus areas include:

Phase two review dates include the following:

  • Oct. 4 and 6, kick-off, first meetings

  • Nov. 7 and 8, second in-person meetings

  • Dec. 9., review team presentations to the Summit Team

During its Sept. 15-16 meeting in Juneau, the UA Board of Regents agreed that President Johnsen should move phase one in the following directions:

  • Further centralize IT functions except for externally funded projects.

  • Centralize procurement and research administration at UAF, with service centers at UA Anchorage and UA Southeast.

  • Examine centralizing the School of Education with a single dean at a single institution but with programs offered at each university.

  • Maintain engineering and management at both UAA and UAF but collaborate more closely.

  • Maintain athletic programs, and explore two possibilities:

    • First, a waiver to allow UAF and UAA to field fewer than the required 10 teams each.

    • Second, a consortium between UAA and UAF that would share teams between the two institutions.

Regents are expected to make their final decisions on phase one at their November meeting.
