The Eighth Circumpolar Agricultural Conference and UArctic Inaugural Food Summit, to be held Sept. 29 - Oct. 3 in Girdwood, will bring together world leaders to discuss agricultural issues and challenges in the circumpolar north. The scientists, farmers, policymakers and others who attend will work to strengthen, support and expand food resources and northern community development.

"We Alaskans need to learn that our agriculture needs are more like those in other high latitude settings and less like those in the Lower 48," said Circumpolar Agricultural Association president Milan Shipka. "Without being part of the circumpolar agriculture system, we have few opportunities to interact with agriculturalists from other countries in the circumpolar region. I hope some of the ideas can stimulate new activity to help Alaska discover what it really means to produce food in a sustainable means for all Alaskans."

The event is hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the Circumpolar Agricultural Association, UArctic and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. To register, visit www.uaf.edu/cac/. Early registration is open through Aug. 20. After that date, additional fees will apply.
