Road painting hits short weather windows

Question

While I realize there is probably no perfect time to paint stripes on busy roads, is there a reason it was being done right at 5 p.m. on multiple days? It was especially hard to navigate when they were painting right near Eielson and the Eielson Gold Lot entrance.

Response

Facilities Services apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the striping this year. The unusual wet and cold weather this year made the coordination unusually difficult. Because of the weather and time of year, Facilities Services’ Division of Design and Construction project managers have not placed the usual constraints on the road striping crews that we normally would. The road striping crews are in many cases proceeding unscheduled and taking advantage of any short periods of dry clear road in which striping can be applied. We are working to insure that the areas are being appropriately signed at the time of application. Even with the disruption, we believe, campus will be better for having the striping than not having it before winter. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your comments.
