SFA-2013_Mahoney This past Saturday marked the final installment of the 2013 Science For Alaska Lecture Series.

The 21st annual series debuted a new venue, day and time. More than 400 people attended the four lectures hosted on campus at the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Schaible Auditorium. Presentation topics included: earthquakes and supercomputers, retreating sea ice in the arctic, air quality in Fairbanks and laser research in Alaska. Throughout the series there was a noticeable increase in audience engagement with the lecturers and their research.

Question and answer sessions included extensive participation and coffee was provided for audience members who stayed after the lectures to meet the presenters. Thank you to Dr. Carl Tape of Seismology, Andy Mahoney of Sea Ice, Nicole Molders and Richard Collins of Atmospheric Sciences for presenting in the 2013 lecture series. Sponsors for the 2013 Science For Alaska Lecture Series were the Geophysical Institute and UAF.  Thank you to all who attended our lectures. We will see you next year!
