A recent gift from Shell Exploration and Production Company will help University of Alaska Fairbanks engineering students receive the tutoring, mentoring and networking they need to be successful.

The company has donated $20,000 to UAF College of Engineering and Mines Student Enhancement Fund, which provides tutoring and mentoring, as well as provides resources for the students to participate in national and international competitions.

“We are working to ensure that our undergraduate students have the tools and means available to help them succeed,"said Pete Stokes, chair of the CEM Advisory and Development Council. "The Student Enhancement Fund is one way we offer support to the engineers of the future, and we are pleased to accept Shell’s generous contribution to assist our students in their pursuit of higher education.”

Shell supports a variety of educational initiatives that improve student performance, encourage diversity and benefit the nation’s future competitiveness. Shell has been a longtime supporter of university programs that aid engineering and geoscience students, as well as science education programs that prepare students for a workforce increasingly reliant on science and technology.

“The UAF CEM Student Enhancement Fund is a great fit for Shell”, said Pete Slaiby, vice president for Shell in Alaska. “The University of Alaska is well on its way to doubling the number of engineering graduates, and Shell is working with the university to mentor the engineers of the future, especially ones trained in arctic environments.”
