Swimming's Adams, Heller set for 2013 NCAA Championship in Birmingham

Sophomore Margot Adams (Anchorage, Alaska/Political science) and junior Bente Heller (Hamburg, Germany/Communication) will compete on the grand stage of collegiate swimming this week as the duo will participate in the 2013 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship March 6-9 at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Ala.

Both swimmers will be making repeat appearances at the national meet as they were both a part of last year's championship in Mansfield, Texas.
In that meet, Adams was national runner-up in the 100 butterfly while Heller was an Honorable Mention All-American in all three freestyle sprints. The two were also part of three All-American relays, which included a fourth-place showing in the 800 freestyle relay.
Adams will swim in three individual events while Heller will be in the water for one individual race on each of the four days.
Adams, who hails from Anchorage, will partake in the 100 butterfly, which she is seeded fourth, as well as the 200 fly and 100 free, as she is ranked 19th and 54th, respectively. Adams won the 100 fly title for the second straight year at last month's Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championship.
Heller will once again swim in all three freestyle sprints as well as a new stroke for the German native. She is seeded third in both the 100 free and 100 backstroke while placing 15th in the 50 free and 17th in the 200 free. She automatically qualified during the PCSC Championship this year when she turned in an NCAA A-cut time of 55.09 in her 100 back split in the 400 medley relay. That mark was a new varsity record.
