The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Theatre and Film will present "Five Women Wearing the Same Dress," a play by Alan Ball, in the Lee H. Salisbury Theatre from March 24-April 2.

The comedy portrays five bridesmaids who avoid an extravagant wedding reception in Tennessee.

On-stage seating is limited. The show's language is not appropriate for all audiences.

UAF Associate Professor Carrie Baker will direct the play, her seventh since joining the UAF faculty in 2005. Baker, the department chair, also has directed for community theater groups in Fairbanks and acted in numerous plays and movies.

The cast includes Natilly Hovda as Frances, Brandi Larson as Mindy, Jill Shipman as Georgeanne, Sarah Williams as Meredith, Meghan Fowler as Trisha and Jared Olin as Tripp.

UAF Professor Kade Mendelowitz designed the set. Adam Gillette is technical director. Colby Freel designed the lighting and Andrew Cassel the sound. Amanda Casterline designed the costumes and Jerene Mosier, costume shop manager, supervised their construction with help from Frederica Matumeak and Lara Lotze.

Ball, the playwright, wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for the film "American Beauty." He created the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning "Six Feet Under," which ran for five hit seasons on HBO, and "True Blood," which HBO carried for seven seasons. He is adapting the book "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" for Harpo Films.

Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets purchased in advance are $10 for students; $15 for seniors, military and other UAF affiliates; and $20 for adults. Prices for Sunday matinees are $2 less. Tickets at the door are $2 higher. The Salisbury Theater is in the Fine Arts Complex, off the Regents' Great Hall, on the Fairbanks campus.

The Department of Theatre and Film is part of the UAF College of Liberal Arts. The college, the largest of UAF’s academic units, comprises the arts, humanities, social sciences and language disciplines across 20 departments.
