Tickets on sale now for 2013 GNAC basketball championship

Tickets are available online at a discounted price at EventBrite for the 2013 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, the league office announced this week.

The Nanooks men's basketball team clinched a berth into the conference tournament for the first time in the three-year existence of the championship on Thursday night with a stunning 77-73 upset against second-ranked Western Washington, ending the defending national champions' 30-game win streak.

The tournament will be held March 6-9, 2013 at Marcus Pavilion in Lacey, Wash., on the campus of Saint Martin's University. Online tickets are available until March 5 at 11:50 p.m. (PST).

The women's championship will begin Wednesday, March 6 with a pair of first-round games with 5:15 and 7:30 p.m. (PST) starts. The men's championship will begin Thursday, March 7 with two first-round games, beginning at 5:15 p.m. (PST). The women's semifinals will be played Friday, March 8 at noon at 2:15 p.m. (PST) while  men's semifinals will follow at 5:15 and 7:30 p.m. (PST). On Saturday, March 9 the women's basketball title game will begin at 5:15 p.m. (PST) and the men's championship battle will start at 7:30 p.m. (PST)

The championship games will be televised live on ROOT Sports with Brad Adam calling the play-by-play and Bill Krueger providing the color commentary.

The winner of the GNAC men's basketball tournament will earn the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division II West Regional tournament, which will begin Friday, March 15 at a site still to be determined.

The NCAA will announce the eight qualifiers and pairing for the regionals on Sunday, March 10. The regional champions will advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played March 28 and 30 at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kent., and the national championship game will be contested at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga., on Sunday April 7
