Welcome back to campus. As we begin a new academic semester, the Title IX Office would like to welcome new students and update our returning students.

Title IX is a federal law passed to ensure equity in education programs. Most recently, Title IX efforts have been focused on creating a learning and employment environment free from unlawful sexual harassment, including sexual violence.

At UAF, we take all reports of sexual misconduct seriously.  If you are a victim of sexual misconduct, you have options for disclosure and assistance.

  • If you want to keep your experience confidential and are seeking assistance with recovery and healing, you can disclose to the UAF Health and Counseling Center (474-7043) or to the Interior Center for Non-Violent Living (452-2293).

  • If you want administrative assistance, you can report to the Title IX Office (474-7300). Various education modifications such as no-trespass orders, academic adjustments and dorm changes can be put in place. Additionally, you can request an investigation, and administrative sanctions can be put in place for individuals who violate UAF’s sexual misconduct policies.

  • If you want to pursue criminal charges, you can disclose to the UAF police (474-7721).

  • If you want to make an anonymous report, you can disclose at UAF’s Title IX website or the UA Confidential Hotline. If using these tools, please provide details so the incident(s) can be investigated and the misconduct can be stopped.

Most exciting this semester is UAF’s partnership with EverFi, a company that offers programs to help students learn how to prevent alcohol abuse and sexual assault. The free programs give you skills to make informed decisions about issues affecting your college experience and your life. You can find this training through your UAOnline account at "student training."

You can win free prizes by completing the training. If Part 1 is completed by Sept. 11, you'll be entered into a drawing for one of two Block 30 meal plans or one of two UAF parking permits. Students completing Part 2 of the training by Oct. 30 will be entered into a drawing for two Alaska Airlines round-trip tickets, valid anywhere the company flies.

The Title IX Office welcomes you to campus. If we can be of assistance to you, please contact us at the Nordic House or call 474-7300.
