UAF commencement to be held May 10

UAF will hold its 93rd graduation with a ceremqk1far74osf1vyq5ddgmmp8ac14ewsxony in Fairbanks on Sunday, May 10. Oscar winner and 1995 UAF alumnus Ben Grossmann is the featured commencement speaker.

Renowned geologist Thomas R. Marshall Jr. will receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree and Alaska Native artist Ron Senungetuk will receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree. Yup’ik culture bearer Gust Bartman received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree at UAF's Bristol Bay Campus on May 2.

Meritorious Service Awards will go to Tony Gasbarro, professor emeritus and former coordinator of UAF’s Peace Corps Masters International Program, and to Karen Parr, educator and community leader.

Saturday, May 9


  • Commencement rehearsal — Carlson Center, 10:30 a.m.

  • Graduate picnic — Carlson Center, immediately following rehearsal. Graduates and their families are invited to join Chancellor Brian Rogers for a picnic in honor of Class of 2015.


Sunday, May 10

  • Graduation Mass — Murie Building auditorium, 10:30 a.m.

  • Commencement ceremony — Carlson Center, opens for guest seating at noon. Processional lineup is at 12:20 p.m. Academic procession begins at 1:20 p.m. Ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m.

  • Alumni Association reception — Arthur Buswell Pioneer Room, Carlson Center, following the ceremony.
