image003 Tree Campus USA has recognized the University of Alaska Fairbanks for its efforts in 2014.

The national program, launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota, honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

To obtain the Tree Campus USA distinction, UAF met five standards for sustainable campus forestry: establishment of a tree advisory committee, existence of a campus tree-care plan, expenditure on a tree program, observance of Arbor Day and sponsorship of student service-learning projects.
