The UAF School of Education and the Alaska Council for Exceptional Children will present a free showing of NOVA's "School of the Future" Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium. Demonstrations of the School of Education's robots will follow at 8:10 p.m.

The show explores ways to prepare children for a new age of information, rapid innovation and globalization. Test scores show American schoolchildren lag far behind their peers from other industrialized countries, and as the divide between rich and poor grows wider, getting all kids ready for college and the workforce is growing increasingly difficult. The show examines recent research on education; insights from neuroscientists, psychologists and educators into how children's brains work and the techniques that are most likely to engage them; and the role of technology in the classroom.
