The staff and students of the University of Alaska Fairbanks TRiO programs invite the public to celebrate National TRiO Day from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Wood Center multilevel lounge.

TRiO programs, established by the federal government in the 1960s, provide students from disadvantaged backgrounds with a variety of services, including academic tutoring, personal counseling, mentoring and financial guidance. UAF's TRiO programs include Student Support Services and Upward Bound.

UAF Director of Admissions Mary Kreta will be keynote speaker at the event, and James Gilchrest will be the student speaker. A panel discussion by staff, alumni and faculty will highlight ways the university supports TRiO-eligible students.

Lacey Brewster, a UAF TRiO and Honors Program alumni, will receive the TRiO Achiever award at the event. The UAF Office of Admissions will be honored with the TRiO Champion award.
