United Way fundraising at UAF

November 28, 2012

Cornerstone

UAF staff, faculty and students have raised $56,826.86 for the United Way of the Tanana Valley or just over 80 percent of this year's goal.

The University Fire Department earned bragging rights for the highest number of participants; 46 staff members have given to the agency.

The UAF United Way Committee is encouraging the campus to try and reach the fundraising goal before the winter break. Here are a few ideas for departments to consider:

  • Consider giving to United Way in lieu of seasonal gift exchanges.

  • Encourage employees to put the holiday sweet treats to work and raise money through a bake sale.

  • If your department is hosting a holiday potluck, consider inviting employees to fill out their United Way form.

  • Invite Mark and Lael Oldmixon to give a brief presentation on the United Way.

You can donate to the community care funds that are allocated to all 20 agencies, support projects and programs that offer preventative solutions to drug and alcohol abuse in our community, or designate funding to a specific UWTV member agency or any 501(c)(3)non-profit organization in Alaska.

For UAF employees the payroll deduction can make donating much easier. Employees can simply fill out the United Way donor form (pdf) and return it to HR via your PPA.

Contact the UAF United Way co-chairs, Lael Oldmixon or Mark Oldmixon, if you’d like to have them share information with your staff.
