Upcoming changes for UAF desktop computers

November 13, 2012

Carla Browning

OIT is in the process of deploying the following software packages for UAF desktop computers. Please watch for more information as timelines are developed. If you have questions, please contact the OIT helpdesk.

NightWatchman
OIT is participating in a project to reduce the overall power consumption by desktop systems across the Fairbanks campus. To accomplish this, we are utilizing NightWatchman, 1E's power management software, to create and maintain an effective evening power management schedule for desktop systems across UA Statewide. This schedule will provide for evening maintenance times to reduce the productivity overhead of virus scans, and software and system updates during the day.
More information on NightWatchman is available on the OIT website.

Identity Finder
Identity Finder is an application to help protect both you and the university by helping to notify you if you have saved Personal Identification Information on your workstation.  Once notified, you'll have the opportunity to evaluate the document and move it to a more secure location if necessary.
More information on Identity Finder is available on the OIT website.

Symantec Endpoint Protection
Symantec Endpoint Protection is the main anti-virus and anti-malware tool to help protect your system from viruses and malware.  OIT is currently upgrading Symantec from version 11, to version 12.1.
More information on Symantec Endpoint Protection (Windows, Mac OS) is available on the OIT website.
