UWA schedules fall welcome tea

University Relations

The University Women’s Association will hold an open house and tea on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m., to welcome scholarship recipients and those people in the Fairbanks community interested in UWA.

UWA was organized over 50 years ago, originally providing a way for UAF faculty wives to meet socially and support UAF academics. Today, UWA membership includes UAF faculty, faculty spouses and other community members, and students, who work together to support the UAF community socially and financially. Members meet casually throughout the year for a variety of activities (book groups, walk-and-ski groups, needlework, and sampling international cuisine, to name a few).

Members also work throughout the year to plan and orchestrate one of Fairbanks’ major holiday bazaars each November. The proceeds from the bazaar, along with generous donations, provide money awarded each year to UAF students. For the 2015-2016 academic year, UWA awarded $20,000 in scholarship funding.

For more information about UWA, contact Gwen Davies Guy at gdaviesguy@gmail.com. To RSVP and get directions to the tea, please contact Rita Osborne at ritaosborne@gmail.com or call 907-479-4535.

Students who would like to attend the tea but need transportation can contact Rita. A UWA member will provide transportation from the campus Wood Center. For general information on UWA, its activity groups or the annual holiday bazaar, “like” us on Facebook.
