Visiting writer to share memoir of Alaska orcas

The Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series will host author, marine biologist and alumna Eva Saulitis for a free public reading Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building Auditorium at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Saulitis will read from her most recent book, “Into Great Silence: A Memoir of Discovery and Loss Among Vanishing Orcas.”
Eva Saulitis is the author of three books of poetry and non-fiction. Her essays and poems have appeared in Orion, Ecotone, Prairie Schooner, Crazyhorse and other journals.
She received an master's degree in marine biology and an MFA in creative writing from UAF. Since then, she has taught at the Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer, in the University of Alaska Anchorage's low-residency MFA program and at the Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference. For the past 25 years, she's studied killer and humpback whales in Prince William Sound.
The Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series is hosted by the UAF English Department and is sponsored by Jim Perrizo, Peggy Shumaker and Joe Usibelli, and Alaska Airlines.
