Heading somewhere warmer for the holidays? Lucky you! Before you leave, remember the following "turn off before you take off" tips to help save energy.

  • After turning off your work space lighting, remember to turn off lights in other empty spaces, too: restrooms, copy/printer rooms, closets, etc.

  • Turn off computers, monitors, printers and office equipment.

  • Turn off power strips, or unplug unneeded computers and appliances.

  • Turn off overhead and task lighting.

  • Close and lock windows.

  • Work in a lab? Ensure fume hoods are closed. Turn off research equipment where possible.

  • Report any door lock, window, plumbing, electrical, heating or refrigeration problems to Facilities Services at 474-7000.

  • DO NOT turn down thermostats, however, as the temperature of buildings must be maintained to prevent frozen pipes.
