Retired history professor Terrence Cole will reflect on his three decades at the University of Alaska Fairbanks during a public lecture at 7 p.m. on May 23 at Schaible Auditorium.

Cole, a respected Alaska historian and longtime director of the UAF Office of Public History, retired from UAF this spring. At UAF’s commencement ceremony this month he received emeritus status, a title given to those who have served the university with distinction for at least 10 years.

During his career, Cole was honored with the Emil Usibelli Distinguished Teaching Award, was twice named the Alaska Historian of the Year and was named Fairbanks Citizen of the Year in 2011 with his twin brother, Dermot. His books include “The Cornerstone on College Hill,” a history of UAF, and “Fighting for the 49th Star: C.W. Snedden and the Crusade for Alaska Statehood.”

The event is sponsored by UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning. A video of the lecture will be posted afterward at www.uaf.edu/summer/events/.
