Lorrie Rea will give a presentation, "Significant Within-Decade Increase in Mercury Concentrations in Steller Sea Lion Pups" on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. The talk is part of the weekly CFOS Seminar series.

Steller sea lion pups from the Western Aleutian Islands have higher median hair total mercury concentrations () than pups from other metapopulations in Alaska. We have identified significant increases in median in pups in this region between 2011 and 2018. These biologically significant increases in accumulated through maternal diet are particularly concerning due to the short, intradecadal scale of the escalation and consistent rate of increase of proportion of pups at risk.
