The University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Liberal Arts will host its seventh annual open house and scholarship giveaway event, We Are CLA, Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, from 11 a.m-2 p.m. in the Wood Center ballroom.

Local high school students and their parents will find valuable information on CLA’s 40-plus degrees and have ample opportunity to get to know the faculty. Current UAF students who are undeclared, or who are new and returning liberal arts students, can schedule advising appointments, declare their majors and gather information about student activities.

Eight lucky participating students will receive scholarship awards worth $500 each. Students must be present to win. Scholarships are provided by CLA’s alumni, donors, UAF Honors College and UAF eCampus.

We Are CLA showcases the disciplines, research, faculty and student activities of the College of Liberal Arts. Programs range from anthropology to justice to theatre and film. Students are invited to investigate the CLA experience firsthand.

The event will include demonstrations from each of the college’s distinctive departments. They’ll include a mock crime scene investigation, a chance to hold human brains and specimens, Japanese calligraphy, investigative journalism activities and much more. Also on-site will be UAF student resources to share valuable information for new and continuing students.

The College of Liberal Arts, one of the largest of UAF academic units, includes the arts, humanities, social sciences and language disciplines across 18 departments.
