Construction update: June 6

Construction season is underway. The staff of Facilities Services and Design and Construction are working to improve the safety, function, efficiency and atmosphere of many of UAF’s buildings and surrounding areas.

As always, pay attention to signage for hazards or wayfinding, and plan ahead if you anticipate delays in reaching your destination. Columbia Circle — The Nordic House will be demolished later this summer. The new location for the Green Bikes program has not yet been determined.

Copper Lane — Demolition of most buildings on Copper Lane is scheduled to begin in early July. All residents have been notified. The Honors Program house will remain.

Cutler Apartment Complex — Crews will be undertaking roof renovations and fire alarm replacements throughout the summer.

Duckering Building — Classrooms on the third floor and some on the fourth will be closed for the summer for renovations.

Gruening Building — Classrooms on the second, third and fourth floors will be closed for the summer for renovations beginning June 10. The work will require the closure of two of the four entrances at different times throughout the project; signs will be posted.

Irving I — Work continues on the replacement of the canopy between Irving and O’Neill. Work is scheduled for completion in early September.

North Tanana Drive — The road will be closed for a month between Sheenjek Drive and Kuskokwim Way. The work is scheduled to begin in mid-June, and includes paving and striping the surface.

Rasmuson Library — Work will be done on the west and south entrances in July.

Signers’ Hall — The back rooms of the Registrar’s Office in 150 Signers’ Hall will undergo a refresh in July. The front desk will remain open for most services.

South Bunnell parking lot — The parking lot will be closed mid- to late July to replace street lamps and do repair work.

South Eielson Building entrance — The renovations to the south entrance and walkway are tentatively scheduled to begin in late June.

Thompson Drive — The road will be reduced to one lane in either direction for one to two days to allow for bridge repairs and the replacement of guardrails. The bridge repair will be completed by the State of Alaska Department of Transportation in late summer.
