DEADWRITERS01 (2) Students, professors and other mere mortals from Fairbanks will perform in costume as their favorite deceased authors in "Dead Writers from Beyond!!" The live event will take place at the Blue Loon Nov. 6  from 7 to 10 p.m.

Prizes will go to the best performers. Spectators are welcome and necessary; however, you must be 21 or older to attend. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The Dead Writers reading, now in its 25th year, is held annually near Halloween. The University of Alaska Fairbanks English Department hosts the event to raise money for the Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series, which brings talented writers to Fairbanks for readings and workshops.

Door prizes will be drawn between readings. Paul Krejci, a member of the UAF music faculty, will perform at intermission.

Tickets are $12 if purchased in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the UAF Wood Center or by contacting Regan Campbell, English student and Dead Writers organizer.

“Dead Writers is the quintessential liberal arts experience. It is the ultimate fusion of literature, performance art and degeneracy,” Campbell said. “Performers dress up under such illustrious names as Julia Childs, Emily Dickinson, William Shakesbeer or Nihilist Carl Sagan, and read a piece of the dead author's work, modify it to suit a theme, or make it up on the fly, always in the interest of pushing good taste. It is an annual community-fed rabble-hall for the creative and the morally bankrupt alike."

The English Department is one of 20 academic units in the College of Liberal Arts, which comprises the arts, humanities, social sciences and language disciplines at UAF.
