September is National Preparedness Month, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will host presentations about emergency energy preparedness Sept. 26 and Sept. 27 in Fairbanks.

Extension energy specialist Art Nash will offer the one-hour presentation, “Are you Ready? — Emergency Energy,” at 5 p.m. Sept. 26 in the Murie Building auditorium on the UAF campus. A second presentation will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Cold Climate Housing Research Center at 1000 Fairbanks St.

The presentations will cover preparedness basics during power outages and emergency evacuations. Nash will also share information about compact and efficient cooking and heating options, rocket stoves and what foods to eat first when the power is out and a refrigerator or freezer is defrosting. For more information, contact Nash at 907-474-6366 or alnashjr@alaska.edu.
