Facebook page concerns

Is anyone monitoring UAF individual department or campus Facebook pages? Specifically for content, grammar and basic punctuation? After recently looking at the Facebook page for a particular rural campus, I am horrified that this is a page representing UAF and higher education. Big hint: Check out Interior Alaska Campus Facebook page.

Monitoring all the Facebook pages associated with the University of Alaska Fairbanks would be a full-time job in itself. Each department, school, college, office, student group, etc. has the power to make a Facebook page to represent itself. Along with that ability comes the responsibility to hire or appoint an administrator for the page.

Facebook is a place where people often use informal vocabulary and grammar, just as they do with friends and family. However, if you are concerned that a page reflects poorly on the university, the best course is to send a direct message to the page expressing your concerns. Be specific so it’s constructive.
